How can I improve my communication at work?

Communication is the key word for the success of all activities in the workplace. This is because the professional can be an expert in their area and have many ideas, however, if they do not know how to transmit what they know to their colleagues, or are unable to understand what is passed on to them, they end up stagnating and unproductive. The famous “communication failures” can result in lower team performance, loss of time and money, discouragement of employees and bosses, etc. Thus, to avoid so many problems, there are some tips that everyone can apply in their professional life in order to improve the way they communicate with co-workers, clients and bosses. Check out:

  1. Define the purpose of each meeting

Unproductive meetings consume a great deal of unnecessary time. So, in addition to evaluating the need for each meeting, it is important to define, before beginning, the answer to the following question: in a nutshell, what is the main message I want to convey to the participants?

  2. Use e-mail and WhatsApp more assertively

Huge messages and giant audios end up getting in the way of sending and receiving. Therefore, when writing an e-mail, try to write down only the essential information and, when sending audio, signal to the person if it is urgent or if they can listen later.

  3. Don't interrupt whoever is talking

In addition to not being very well regarded in the professional environment, interruptions prevent you from understanding the opinions of other employees or customers and creating a more productive dialogue.

  4. When in doubt, choose familiar words

Messages with complex words can damage the recipient's understanding and stagnate all communication. Especially when the subject is urgent, prefer simple but clear texts.

  5. Tailor your speeches

As you get to know your team members and their superiors, you begin to understand the best ways to convince them of certain ideas and to talk to them without creating conflict. Therefore, adjust your messages according to each person's profile.
